BEIJING, July 15 -- On July 12, local time, the3rd Annual Wau Peace Marathon kicked off on a main road of Wau City in South Sudan. The 15th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) dispatched a team of 10 members to participate in the race together with more than 500 runners from the UNMISS, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF),the local government, international organizations, and the local people.
Under the theme of "Running Promotes Peace andUnity Leads to the Future", and with a single event of the 10-kilometer marathon cross-country run, the race aimed to promote friendship and build consensus on peace among all parties in the mission area through sports game. The members of the Chinese peacekeeping engineering contingent ended up ranking at the top nine among the UNMISS runners. Two of them also achieved excellent results of ranking at the third and sixth among all the runners in the race.
