BEIJING, July 24 -- The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Naval Medical Center recently dispatched an expert team to Nyima County of Nagqu City in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, for one-week medical assistance. The team provided endemic disease treatment, surgical operations mentoring, medical care knowledge popularization, medical outreach, and other assistances.
Kashin-beck disease and cholelithiasis are common and frequently-occurring diseases in the plateau regions. Based on the case collection and preoperative assessment completed by previous medical assistance team to Xizang, the naval medical center organized a team of experts from orthopedics and hepatobiliary surgery departments, successfully performing six laparoscopic surgeries and eight knee replacement surgeries for the local people.
According to the local health administration, the local medical system has seen leapfrog development since the Chinese PLA Naval Medical Center started to provide paired medical assistance in 2021.
In order to continuously improve the capabilities of the local medical system, the center set up a surgical co-construction station at the People's Hospital of Nyima County and the Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Base to provide specialized technical training for the key medical and nursing personnel and facilitate the establishment of standardized diagnosis and treatment processes for the local area.
The introduction of advanced medical equipment, innovation in diagnosis and treatment models, and provision of technical training have significantly enhanced the comprehensive treatment capabilities of the county hospital.
