Chinese peacekeepers in Mali take over MINUSMA camp guard duty

GAO, MALI, March 27 (ChinaMil) -- The 5th Chinese peacekeeping guard detachment to Mali officially took over three sentry posts at the Super Camp of Sector East of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) from the Bangladesh peacekeeping infantry battalion and the Cambodian peacekeeping explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) company on Mar 20, local time.

The detachment started to perform security and defense task at the Super Camp of Sector East from the very day, providing 24-hour protection for MINUSMA working staff, installations and peacekeeping forces in the Super Camp from possible attacks.

This new task for the detachment came after the completion of its defense duty at Camp E of Sector East.

Since its deployment to the mission area in May 2017, the 5th Chinese peacekeeping guard detachment has handled more than 10 emergencies.

MINUSMA Force Commander Lieutenant General Jean-Paul Deconinck spoke highly of the Chinese peacekeepers, saying that Chinese peacekeepers have demonstrated excellent professional qualities, high morale and strict discipline, and always appear at the mission frontline when they are needed the most and complete tasks entrusted by the MINUSMA with high standard.
