BEIJING, Mar.25 -- Nearly 200 troops assigned to the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison participated in the Hong Kong Tree Planting Day at Tai Lam Country Park, Yuen Long District in Hong Kong, on March 22.
During the event, the troops from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, together with local citizens, planted more than 5,000 saplings of eight species including Chinese eurya, rhaphiolepis and sterculia lanceolata.
The Hong Kong Tree Planting Day was first launched in 1998 and has become a symbolic event for environmental protection in Hong Kong. The Chinese PLA Hong Kong Garrison has already dispatched about 18,400 service members to attend the event, winning wide praise from various sectors of Hong Kong society.
