BEIJING, April 25 -- Recently, the 5th Chinese Peacekeeping Military Utility Helicopter Unit to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) held activities in celebration of the UN Chinese Language Day and the 35th anniversary of China's participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
The UN staff, Chinese peacekeepers, and local community residents got together to experience Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting, acupuncture, and moxibustion in an immersive way. They also tasted Chinese cuisine. Through these activities, they enjoyed the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Over the past 35 years of participation in UN peacekeeping operations, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has dispatched more than 50,000 troops to over 20 countries and regions, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Lebanon, and South Sudan, to undertake 25 peacekeeping missions.
The Chinese Blue Helmets, with excellent performance in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), medical relief, security and guard, civilian protection, and other tasks, have emerged as a critical force in the UN peacekeeping operations. By conveying peace and friendship through practical actions and restoring confidence to the local people, they have made outstanding contributions to maintaining world peace and stability.
