Recently, Lai Ching-te twice transited to the US and wantonly clamored about the fallacy of "Taiwan independence". This is another serious provocation by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to seek "Taiwan independence" by soliciting US support. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns US' misconduct in persistently permitting Lai to engage in political activities in the US by transit visits, and obstinately pursuing the strategy of "containing China with Taiwan" with inconsistency between words and deeds. On August 19, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) organized naval and air forces to conduct joint combat-ready patrol and training exercise around Taiwan Island, which is a grave warning against the collusion and provocation of the "Taiwan independence" separatists and external forces.
As the DPP candidate for the 2024 Taiwan leadership election, Lai Ching-te has long been galloping on the wrong path. This time, he attempted to further cling to the leg of US anti-China forces by transit visit, so as to increase exposure, raise his status and fish for personal political capital. Such an ugly performance fully demonstrates the dirty scheme of "Taiwan independence" separatist forces like Lai to capture private gains by selling Taiwan to flatter the US.
Since taking office seven years ago, the DPP authorities have been stubbornly sticking to a secessionist stance of "Taiwan independence" and refusing to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, unilaterally undermining the political foundation for cross-Strait consultations and indiscriminately accepted all appalling demands made by the anti-China forces in the US. The DPP authorities, who have forgotten their roots, attempt to turn Taiwan into a vanguard against China in the front line and resist reunification as obedient lackeys of US anti-China forces, even to the point of sacrificing the interests of entire Taiwan for personal gains, which are bound to be nailed to the historical pillar of ignominy.
The DPP authorities' fawning on the US and betraying Taiwan has gradually pushed the island to the brink of war and made the civilians the biggest victims of the selfish acts of the "Taiwan independence" separatists like Lai. As a blood-bonded family, compatriots across the Taiwan Strait should cultivate a closer relationship through frequent visits and share the fruits of peaceful development. However, ignoring the safety and well-being of the Taiwan people, the DPP authorities willfully pander to the US anti-China forces' plot to contain China, constantly stirring up troubles and inciting cross-Strait confrontation, in an attempt to manipulate public opinion within the island, pushing the people there to the dead road of "Taiwan independence".
Over the years, the US has continuously strengthened official exchanges with the Taiwan region, connived at "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and lifted up the number and performance of arms sold to Taiwan, hollowing out the one-China principle and depriving the credibility of all relevant promises it has made. The international community has seen clearly that the fundamental purpose of the US policy of "using Taiwan to contain China" is to hinder the development and progress and the great rejuvenation of China while maintaining its own hegemonic interests.
No matter how vivid the performance is or whatever the rhetoric is for the duet between the DPP authorities and the US anti-China forces, the sinister intention of the US to use Taiwan as a pawn cannot be masked. Current persistent turbulence and tensions in the Taiwan Strait and shameless words and deeds of US anti-China forces have made more and more Taiwan people aware that deeper collusion between Taiwan authorities and the US politicians will pose greater harm to the region. Facts have repeatedly proved that every transit visit of "Taiwan independence" separatists has seriously damaged their vital interests. That explains why people in Taiwan and overseas Chinese staged huge protests during Lai's visit to the US.
The historical process of the reunification and great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is irreversible, and the provocations by the "Taiwan independence" separatists and external forces will inevitably turn out to be like trying to hold back the tide with a broom. They cannot change the fact that Taiwan is a part of China, nor will they hold back the process of China's reunification. We want to sternly warn the DPP authorities and external forces that the one-China principle is not to be challenged, and the plot to sell Taiwan to flatter the US is doomed to failure.
The Taiwan question is at the very core of China's core interests. It is the political foundation of China-US relations and the first red line that must not be crossed in this relationship. No country, no forces and no individual should have the fantasy of separating Taiwan from China. No one should underestimate the strong resolve, will and ability of the Chinese people to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity.
