Exhibition held to commemorate recruitment of first female soldiers by Whampoa Military Academy

GUANGZHOU, March 9 -- Memorial exhibition of the women's team of the Whampoa (Huangpu)  Military Academy Wuhan Branch was held at the memorial hall of the former site of Whampoa (Huangpu) Military Academy in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong province, on August 8, and will last until August 31. A total of 31 collections and more than 200 historical pictures are displayed in the exhibition.

The Whampoa Military Academy, China's first and best-known military academy, was founded by Sun Yat-sen in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on May 1, 1924. In 1926, one of its branches in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, began to recruit the first batch of female students. The  female students enrolled had not only set a model for the liberation of Chinese women, but also played a major role in defeating the invading Japanese troops during the following World War II, marking a glorious chapter in the Chinese history.

The exhibition focuses on the creation of the women's team of the Whampoa (Huangpu) Military Academy Wuhan Branch and the growth of these female soldiers, introducing the outstanding representatives of them who had made important contributions to various revolutionary activities in China.
