BEIJING, March 11 -- Lieutenant Colonel Gao Zhongqiang is a J-20 pilot who has completed over 30 major missions. This year, as a a deputy to China's National People's Congress (NPC) from the frontline troops under the PLA Air Force, he received the interview at the “Deputies Passage” on March 5.

He recalled that in 2023, when piloting the J-20 fighter jet to escort the remains of the volunteer martyrs back to China, he and his fellows conducted a comprehensive analysis based on the meteorological conditions along the air route to ensure homecoming for heroes safely.

Regarding to the “Golden Helmet” honor he won in the contest organized by the PLA Air Force, Gao said this award merely represented the achievement for a stage, and only with continuous improvement can he compete for the victory in the future.

Sometimes with a maximum weight load eight or nine times of their weight in training, pilots need to focus all their attention on flight skills and tactics regardless of physical pain, and form muscle memory.

“Forge exemplary conduct for toughest challenge. This is the normal state of not only every pilot, but also every airman,” said Gao Zhongqiang.
