BEIJING, Dec. 28 -- "It's known to all that the US is the culprit of hacking and the notorious country on cyber security for the well-known PRISM," said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference on Thursday.

Spokesperson Wu made the remarks when being asked to comment on the recent words by the official of US Department of Homeland Security who claimed that hacking groups associated with the Chinese military are strengthening their capability of undermining the US key infrastructures.

"The remarks made by the US side are groundless and pure smears. The US side should firstly offer a proper and clear explanation to the international community before making groundless accusations against China," Spokesperson Wu said.

Then, he pointed out that according to statistics, in 2020, China captured over 42 million computer malware samples, 53.1 percent of which were from the US. In addition, the number of malware control servers abroad, which controlled system units in China, reached 52,000, of which about 19,000 were located in the US, ranking the top.

"We urge the US side to stop hacking against China, stop smearing and discrediting China in the field of cyber security, and stop hyping up the so-called 'China cyber threat'. China will take necessary measures to safeguard its own security and interests," stated the spokesperson.
