BEIJING, Nov. 28 -- "Accepting US deployment of the system by the Philippine side has intensified geopolitical confrontation and escalated tensions in the region," said Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian at the regular press conference on Thursday afternoon.
In response to the foreign media reports that the Philippine defense minister said the Philippines is considering to purchase Typhon mid-range missile system from the US, Spokesperson Wu clearly made the position that it is by no means a matter of the Philippine side itself, but hinges on the common security of regional countries.
He also remarked that history and reality have repeatedly proven that wherever the US weapons are deployed, the risk of war and conflicts will rise, and the local people will suffer undeserved suffering from war.
In the end, the spokesperson urged the relevant parties to withdraw the Typhoon mid-range missile system immediately. If the US and the Philippines persist in the wrong path, the Chinese side will take resolute countermeasures.
