BEIJING, Aug. 8 -- "In the face of hard evidences, no attempt to distort WWII history and whitewash the war of aggression will succeed", said Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense (MND), at a press briefing on Friday.
Recently, several films about historical events during the WWII have been released in China, such as Dead to Rights, which depicts the heroic deeds of Chinese civilians during the Nanjing Massacre, and Dongji Rescue, which portrays Chinese fishermen risking their lives to rescue the British POWs under the gunfire of Japanese militarists.
Defense Spokesperson Jiang stated that during World War II, Japanese militarism launched wars of aggressions, committing monstrous crimes that are too numerous to record in full, inflicting profound suffering on the Chinese people and the world at large.
"Today, a growing number of people are coming to recognize the inhuman brutality of Japanese militarists through documentaries, films, and other forms of media, as well as the gallant resistance by the Chinese people and the people of other countries against Japanese fascists", the spokesperson noted, adding that "This has led to a deeper understanding of how the hard-won peace truly was."
He pointed out that more and more foreign friends are stepping forward to donate to China and disclose to the world the evidences of atrocities committed by the Japanese aggressors. "In the face of hard evidences, no attempt to distort WWII history and whitewash the war of aggression will succeed", he stressed.
"Lessons written with blood must never be forgotten; historical tragedies must never be repeated", the spokesperson noted. "We will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War this year," he introduced. The Chinese military will carry forward and promote the great spiritual legacy of the war, and defend China's national sovereignty, security, and development interests with stronger capability and more reliable means, said the spokesperson.
