BEIJING, Feb.23 --The Chinese PLA Army Engineering University is hosting the de-mining training of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)-Plus Experts' Working Group (EWG) on Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) in Nanjing via video link from February 21 to 24, said Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense (MND), at a regular press conference on Thursday.
The spokesperson said that during the event, Chinese and foreign experts are having lectures and seminars to exchange around the international policies, regulations and standards on landmine-related issues, organization and management of de-mining operations, humanitarian de-mining operation methods, technical equipment and personnel training, etc.
The spokesperson also noted that representatives from 17 ADMM-Plus countries, ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) attended the event online.
This training is an important event jointly sponsored by China and Cambodia as co-chairs of ADMM-Plus EWG on HMA, which will help to further develop the coordinating role of the EWG on HMA in addressing the regional mine problems, and strengthen the practical cooperation among member countries and institutions in the non-traditional security field, said the spokesperson.
