BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, on Wednesday underscored that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and China will never allow any forces to turn the island into a "hell."

Chen made the remarks in response to a media query about recent comments by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who suggested shoring up Taiwan's "self-defense capabilities" to deter China. There were also remarks from U.S. military personnel selling a "hellscape" plan on the island.

The Taiwan question is a matter of China's internal affairs, which brooks no external interference, Chen said, adding that some people in the United States are hyping up the tensions in the Taiwan Strait as a pretext to meddle in Taiwan affairs, enabling the U.S. military-industrial complex to profit. Their actions, he warned, will wreak havoc on Taiwan, with the people on the island used as "cannon fodder."

Chen urged the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués with China, cease sending inappropriate signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and refrain from escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

He also slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities for putting the people in Taiwan in a dangerous situation by following the U.S. agenda to serve their own political interests.
