China will continue to strengthen military to military relations with Russia to address new security challenges in the world, senior military officials said on Tuesday.

Air Force General Xu Qiliang, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark while meeting with Russia's defense minister Sergey Shoygu in Beijing on Tuesday.

Xu said the Sino-Russian relationship has reached new heights, thanks to a strong push by leaders from both countries.

Sino-Russia bilateral relations are now at an all time high, characterized by deepening strategic mutual trust and expanding cooperation, Xu said.

The military relationship between the two countries also is seeing positive growth, with frequent and fruitful exchanges and cooperation across various levels, he added. This trend has contributed greatly to facilitating a Sino-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

At the moment, new security challenges and issues are emerging due to growing uncertainties around the world, Xu said.

Therefore, China is willing to deepen mutual support with Russia, increase comprehensive cooperation and enhance bilateral relations, especially in military relations, he said.

China and Russia also will jointly protect the security interests of both countries and maintain regional strategic balance, Xu added.

Shoygu said Russia prioritizes strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

Russia will continue to expand and deepen cooperation to fulfill the consensus reached by leaders from both countries, and jointly address new security threats in an effort to maintain regional and world peace and stability, he said.
