SANYA, May 23 (ChinaMil) -- After sailing for more than 6,600 nautical miles in 28 days, a Chinese naval taskforce arrived at a naval port in Sanya City, South China's Hainan Province on the morning of May 22.
The taskforce, comprised of the Chinese guided missile destroyer Changsha and the guided missile frigate Liuzhou, set sail from Sanya on April 25, and anchored in waters near Indonesia's Lombok Island on May 3 to participate in the KOMODO 2018 multilateral naval exercise hosted by Indonesian Navy.
During the week-long exercise, the two Chinese warships and servicemen onboard participated in fleet review, drills of engineering civic action program (ENCAP) and medical civic action program (MEDCAP), as well as cultural exchange activities such as city parade, city tour, culinary games and sports events.
During the sea phase of the exercise, they participated in joint drills of aerial photography, underway replenishment, mutual ship-based helicopter landing, checking and warning off , joint search and rescue, diving operations and sailing pass.
After the exercise, the two Chinese naval ships left Indonesia on May 9, passing the East Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait and entered the South China Sea. En route returning to China, they conducted far-sea training on main gun firing at surface targets, air defense, joint search and rescue, anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations and so forth.
