HANOI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Many Vietnamese and Chinese people gathered here on Sunday to mark the 110th birthday and contributions of Vietnamese general Nguyen Son (Chinese name Hong Shui), a military officer commissioned in modern China and a rare "general of two countries."

On the occasion of the 110th birthday of Nguyen Son, who was born on Oct. 1, 1908 in Kieu Ky commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi as Vu Nguyen Bac, the Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences held a talk in the commune to discuss his great contributions to the revolutionary causes of both Vietnam and China.

Yin Haihong, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said General Hong Shui partook in the revolutionary causes of China and Vietnam, nourishing and contributing to the traditional friendship between the two countries, and the friendship should be promoted and brought into play.

Addressing the birthday anniversary and talk, Vietnamese historian Duong Trung Quoc, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences, highlighted Nguyen Son's contribution to the revolutions of Vietnam and China, and to the friendship between the two countries.
