The US-China Disaster Management Exchange drew to a close on Saturday in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, after military delegations from both countries trained together in disaster relief work.
The delegations were led by Lieutenant General Qin Weijiang, deputy commander of the Eastern Theater Command and Commander of the ETC Army, and General Robert Brown, commander of the US Army Pacific.
Focused on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, the exchange kicked off on Nov 12 with an earthquake "disaster" in a fictional third country as its backdrop. The scenario called for US and Chinese military cooperation to provide assistance.
It highlighted practical field exercises where troops from the two countries jointly conducted search and rescue, first aid and medical care and victim transfer.
Qin said the Chinese and American troops demonstrated well their professionalism, fighting spirit, sense of responsibility and glory during the exchange, adding that the planning was meticulous, the process was reasonable and the command was efficient.
The exercise proved that it is promising for the Chinese and US armies to strengthen cooperation on topics of common concerns and interests, he said.
"The two militaries should have more exchanges and cooperation, which will help enhance mutual trust and reduce misconceptions," he said.
The exchange was the 14th such kind held between China and the US. It combined a multi-national coordination center, US and China command posts and practical field exercises.
It also plays an important role in sharing experiences of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations to increase the capabilities of both sides in response to a real world disaster, Brown said.
