African Union official hails security cooperation with China

ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 12 (ChinaMil) -- The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security Smail Chergui hailed on Monday the durable peace and security cooperation between the AU and China.

During the 32nd African Union Heads of State and Government Summit, Chergui said that China is an important partner to the AU and Africa. Chinese peacekeepers have played a vital role in safeguarding peace and security in South Sudan and Mali.

Chergui said, in addition to Chinese peacekeepers deployed in conflict zones, China has also provided technical and logistical support for the AU's peacekeeping operations.

Chergui said the AU and China have also achieved welcome results in the cooperation of health, energy and infrastructure, etc. He hoped that both sides will continue to strengthen high-level cooperation.
