Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Tuesday highlighted the importance of border security in promoting the economic development of border areas during his visit to the China-Myanmar border in China's southwest Yunnan Province.

The stability of the China-Myanmar border is directly related to the security and stability of southwest China and the cooperation process of "Belt and Road Initiative", said Wang.

He urged all departments concerned to strengthen border management so as to safeguard people's life and property and create a favorable living environment for the two peoples.

Speaking of the economic cooperation between the two countries, Wang called for greater efforts in building the China-Myanmar economic corridor and China-Myanmar economic cooperation zone.

He hoped the economic cooperation will facilitate the personnel exchanges in border areas and the economic and social development of the two countries.
