Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu says it’s a privilege for Fiji and the Republic of Fiji Navy (RFNS) to have received a vessel that is modern and skillfully designed.
He made the remark at the farewell for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) expert training team, who successfully completed four months of training for the RFNS Kacau’s crew yesterday.
The 18-member PLA Navy training team was farewelled at the Captain Stanley Brown Navy base at Walu Bay, Suva.
“It is a testament to the growing enhanced relationship between our two nations, Fiji and the Peoples of Republic of China, which is based on mutual respect and understanding,” Mr Seruiratu said.
Mr Seruiratu said the donation of the RFNS Kacau to the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Naval Division was an indication of the close relationship between the two countries and their partnership in maritime sovereignty and security.
“RFNS Kacau is the first of its kind that will grace our seas because of its range of operational capability, which is not limited to hydrographic survey but maritime surveillance, HADR, diving, Search and Rescue,” he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo said during the four months, the Chinese experts had their gains as well.
“They have gained friendship, with their Fijian counterparts and the Fijian people,” he said.
“China is committed to world peace and regional stability. China is quite willing to work with Fiji to take our comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.”
