QINGDAO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- A high-level symposium has concluded in east China's port city of Qingdao, as part of the multinational naval events marking the 70th founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.

The symposium has facilitated thoughts on promoting maritime governance, built consensus on safeguarding maritime security, proposed expanding maritime cooperation and strengthened friendships between navies, said Qin Shengxiang, political commissar of the PLA Navy.

Heads of delegations from over 60 countries discussed the proposal to build a maritime community with a shared future, which is also the theme of the symposium.

"The theme shows our willingness to work together to find solutions to various global challenges," said Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, chief of the naval staff of the Nigerian Navy.

The maritime community with a shared future is sure to become one that features sharing and mutual aid, said Admiral Luechai Ruddit, commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy.

The multinational naval events, which ran from April 22 to 25, featured various activities including a naval parade, a high-level symposium and cultural and sports exchanges.

The PLA Navy was founded on April 23, 1949.
