ZHANJIANG, May 5 (ChinaMil) -- The tactical table-top exercise of China-Thailand Joint Naval Training “Blue Commando-2019” is conducted in the Command Post of a military port in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province on the afternoon of May 4, 2019.

Organized by both sides in turn, the exercise began at 1pm local time. Resorting to auxiliary methods such as electronic charts, ship models, flow charts and computer simulation, the commanders and key staff members conducted in-depth discussions on the subjects like fleet in formation during departure from wharf, communication exercise, formation movement, replenishment-at-sea, main-gun firing at sea, etc., as well as engaging map exercises one by one.

It is reported that the joint training focused on actual combat. No pre-determined action plans in place means that each training subject during the maritime exercise phase would be initiated according to the contingency scenario. In view of this, the two sides conducted scenario analysis, emergent decision-making and on-the-spot response of each stage for table-top exercise phase.

“The table-top exercise has laid a solid foundation for the next phase maritime exercise.” Zhao Yanquan, captain of the Chinese guided-missile frigate Yueyang (Hull 575) who participated in the training, expressed that it enables the two sides to discuss and resolve the issues in coordination and cooperation, command procedure and operational mechanism, so that they can reach consensus on the key points of the joint training, establish Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) and ensure the smooth, safe and successful conduction of the following maritime exercise.

In addition, the two sides also conducted lectures and exchanges on amphibious operations, humanitarian assistance and submarine operations, and coordinated related organisational plans.
