PLA Xizang Military Command sends first detachment for UN peacekeeping operations

Lhasa, Sept. 15 -- The PLA Xizang Military Command held a ceremony in Lhasa to see off the 24th Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on September 10. The medical detachment departed Lhasa on Monday for the DRC to join the 24th Chinese peacekeeping force to the DRC. It is the first time that the Xizang Military Command has dispatched servicepersons for international peacekeeping mission.

In the past two months, the 43 members of the peacekeeping medical detachment had conducted training and examination in nine professional subjects, including Level-II peacekeeping hospital standardized treatment procedures, nursing operation techniques, and prevention of infectious diseases, etc. They have also been vaccinated against seven infectious diseases like cholera, yellow fever and hepatitis A.  

“We are determined to make successful completion of our mission entrusted by the United Nations with the first-class standards, superb medical skills and efficient work,” said Zhang Min, leader of the 24th Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to the DRC.
