94-year-old Han Tingfu looks back at a battlefield he fought on nearly 70 years ago, as a member of a logistics regiment of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army.
HAN TINGFU Veteran "The Americans' planes were strong. Their flares could light up the sky for ten minutes. They would bomb us during the day, and we'd repair the roads at night. I was in charge of the logistics supply of four warehouses for four companies of one battalion."
The exhibition features 540 photos, and over 1,900 artifacts, including maps, documents, flags, badges, and weapons, which were used or captured during the war.
HUANG YIBING Researcher, Military Museum of Chinese People's Revolution "In the second battle, our No.9 Corp attacked US troops, taking out a whole regiment. These two flags witnessed that battle. It was in very frigid conditions; the weather was very cold. Our soldiers lacked proper clothes, as well as adequate food and ammunition. But we surrounded the Americans, hit them hard, and secured a victory."
In June 1950, US-led UN forces pushed beyond the Yalu River, on the border between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and China.
The DPRK requested help from China, whose soldiers crossed the Yalu River and helped their neighbor fight to protect their own national security, until a truce was signed in 1953.
A total of 2.9 million Chinese soldiers entered the battle, and over 190 thousand lost their lives.
The exhibition aims to reflect the nature of justice and victory of the war, and recounts CPV soldiers' heroic deeds and revolutionary spirit.
The show is now open to the public, and will run through the end of February 2021.
