China, ROK coast guards carry out joint patrols in provisional measures zone for first time

BEIJING, Nov. 13 -- The China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 6501 and the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) vessel 3009 formed a formation and conducted the first joint patrol in the provisional measures zone (PMZ) under the China-South Korea Fishery Agreement recently.

According to statistics, the two sides have patrolled for 102.5 hours, and the voyage reached 505.7 nautical miles. They observed and recorded 219 fishing boats, sounded the reminders 16 times , and seized two illegal fishing boats. The offshore operations were generally well-ordered. During the period, China and the ROK coast guards conducted exchanges on the patrol situation through radio-communication, and exchanged views on deepening cooperation.

This joint patrol is of great significance to enhancing mutual understanding between the CCG and the KCG and deepening bilateral cooperation. In the future, both sides will further strengthen maritime law enforcement cooperation and jointly maintain the regular fishery order in the PMZ under the China-ROK Fishery Agreement.
