BEIJING, Dec. 20 – “The US Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin sailed through the Taiwan Strait on the night of December 18. The naval and aerial forces under the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command have tracked and monitored the US destroyer throughout the whole process,” said Air Force Senior Colonel Zhang Chunhui, spokesperson for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, in a written statement published on Saturday.
Snr. Col. Zhang said that recently, the US warships have traversed the Taiwan Strait from time to time and played up the hype, deliberately raising the temperature of the Taiwan Strait question. Lest the Taiwan Strait be calm, the US side even intentionally sent wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces. Such actions have seriously endangered the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
The related actions of the US side are essentially the mixed manipulation of showing off military muscle and misleading public opinion, reflecting its strategic selfishness of using Taiwan as a pawn and treating Taiwan question as a game. “China is strongly opposed to this” Snr. Col Zhang added.
“The troops assigned to the PLA Eastern Theater Command will keep an eye on the situation across the Taiwan Strait and resolutely fulfill their duty and mission,” the spokesperson stressed at the end of the written statement.
