SANAA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Fighter jets of the Saudi-led coalition killed 30 Houthi militants and destroyed 15 vehicles of the militia in the city of Harad in Yemen's northern province of Hajjah on Tuesday morning, a Yemeni military officer told Xinhua.

"The airstrikes paved the way for the Yemeni government army to further advance inside the strategic city, which borders Saudi Arabia, seizing control of the southern and western parts of the city," the officer said from the frontline on condition of anonymity.

"The army entered the city from four directions, using tanks and armored vehicles," the officer said, adding that "demining teams are clearing landmines in the streets and farms."

Meanwhile, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported multiple airstrikes by the coalition on Harad without providing further details.

Last week, the Yemeni army backed by the coalition recaptured the al-Mihsam military camp, a village, and strategic mountains overlooking Harad.

The operation came simultaneously with another offensive launched by the Yemeni army to recapture districts in the oil-rich province of Marib in central Yemen.

Last month, the Yemeni army recaptured three districts in the southeastern province of Shabwa from the Houthi militia after a 10-day battle, taking the whole province of Shabwa from the militia.
