WUHAN, May 30 -- A joint flood control and emergency rescue exercise was held in Dongxihu District of Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei Province on May 27. More than 300 people from 21 military and local units, including the people's armed forces department and emergency management bureau of the district, participated in the exercise.

The exercise was conducted against the background of continuous, heavy "downpours" in the district, and the "floods" following the rainstorm destroyed roads, crashed buildings, and trapped residents.

As soon as receiving the report, the flood control headquarters at the site activated the emergency plan, according to which, the operations of dangers reconnaissance, levees reinforcement, and search and rescue of trapped residents were carried out in an orderly manner. After the "flood" receded, the disinfection team conducted emergency disinfection operation in the "polluted areas" to prevent the possible outbreak of an epidemic.

It is learned that more than 80 sets/pieces of equipment were used during the exercise, including high-tech devices such as industrial drones, radio relay stations, life detection instruments, and water rescue robots, which greatly improved the rescue efficiency.
