Responding to media questions regarding the US Treasury Department's recent announcement of imposing sanctions against certain Chinese companies and individuals for their alleged involvement in a hyped hack attempt by "Salt Typhoon," a so-called China-linked hacker group, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that China opposes the Biden administration's accusations and arbitrary sanctions without credible evidence.

These remarks were made in response to US Treasury Department's imposition of sanctions on alleged hacker Yin Kecheng and cybersecurity company Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology Co.

China opposes the Biden administration's accusations and arbitrary sanctions without credible evidence, Mao said, noting that the US has, in fact, carried out long-term, systematic, and large-scale cyberattacks against China, which is an issue China has repeatedly raised concerns about.

As major cyber powers, both China and the US share common concerns over cybersecurity, particularly the security of critical infrastructure. Mao urged the US to stop its wrongful practice of misusing sanctions.

The two sides should engage in open and honest discussions about their concerns based on equality, mutual respect, and factual evidence, while adhering to the same international rules to jointly maintain peace and stability in cyberspace, Mao said.
