WAU, South Sudan, Feb 2 (ChinaMil) -- The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to South Sudan (Wau) passed the peacekeeping capability assessment of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on the first day of February.
This is the first UNMISS assessment of this kind the detachment has received since deployed to its mission area in Wau last September.
The peacekeeping capability assessment is a major measure the UN takes to examine whether a peacekeeping force is able to effectively carry out missions or not. The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment obtained"Straight A's" in the assessment covering individual capability, intelligence awareness, operational capability, logistics and communications.
Leader of the UNMISS assessment team spoke highly of the detachment's perfect combat readiness mechanism, amazing emergency handling capabilities and highly vigilant battle awareness. "I believe they can successfully accomplish all the tasks entrusted by UNMISS," he said.
The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment arrived at the mission area in Wau of Sudan in late September last year. The detachment's major tasks cover the construction of roads, bridges, airports, barracks and bunkers, as well as providing engineering support for the peacekeeping forces of the UNMISS Sector West.
