WAU, SOUTH SUDAN, June 26 (ChinaMil) -- A four-member mid-term evaluation team sent by the China's military recently arrived at the barracks of the 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent to South Sudan (Wau) to conduct a comprehensive evaluation on the contingent's peacekeeping operations.
After arriving at the barracks in Wau, the evaluation team was first briefed by the Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent and medical detachment. Then, they exchanged views and suggestions with each other on the current situation and the peacekeeping missions in South Sudan.
Afterwards, the evaluation team observed a joint drill conducted by the Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent and medical detachment. The drill mainly include the response to small group of militants' attack on sentry, response to unidentified personnel's firing at barracks, response to armed confrontations and joint rescue of the wounded.
The evaluation team also inspected the standardized management of Chinese peacekeeping barracks, construction of security facilities, and progress of their peacekeeping projects and so on. Eventually, the Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent to South Sudan successfully passed the mid-term evaluation.
The 8th Chinese peacekeeping engineer contingent to South Sudan (Wau) arrived at the mission area in September 2017. It is mainly responsible for engineering protection, construction of roads, bridges and airfields and providing engineering support to other peacekeeping forces in the war zones.
